Chase and Everett

Everett and his mom Corinne came down, along with my sister Christy and her kids, for a play date. We've been trying to have a standing weekly Tuesday, or at least once a week, play date to let the kids run around together and give us a chance to visit (or best we can over all the commotion of 4 or 5 kids). Chase was fascinated with Everett and really wanted to give him a good mauling aka check him out. Everett, however, was less than impressed.

Problem with Fireplaces

I've been a on a posting hiatus with trying to get all the bookkeeping all caught up...so now I'm trying to get all my pictures posted from the last month...bear with me!

Now that Chase is crawling, my cleaning skills (or lack thereof) are being put to the test. It was much easier when there was only one kid running around, but with two I just don't seem to be as diligent. The fireplace is a constant problem. I clean it twice a day to keep the ash, wood chips to a minimum but yesterday I apparently missed a spot...

The picture wasn't nearly as shocking as him spitting out a small chunk of coal. Sigh. He had a leaf in his diaper yesterday. I have managed to keep paper, Carter's toys, coins, buttons, etc all put away, but he finds the oddest things. His top two teeth finally broke through on Thursday. Carter never had any problems teething, but Chase ran a fever for 3 days and was pretty miserable until these finally came in. I ran out of infant's Tylenol and ran to town to get some. A major undertaking with Chase not feeling well. Got all through the store, picked up some groceries including a ball that Carter chased all through the store, got checked out, only to find that I didn't have my ID with me and they wouldn't accept my payment without it. Are you fricking kidding me???? The lady wanted to know if I just wanted to suspend the transaction while I ran home to go get it. Ya right, over an hour round trip plus another half hour back home again? Hahahaha. So completely mortified, I left my groceries and the Tylenol and the ball--with both kids screaming, once tired and sick, the other mad she had to leave her ball behind. My sister Christy saved the day by having some Tylenol for Chase so I didn't have to send Robert to town for some. (Thank Heavens for sisters!!!)

Carter managed to butcher her hair again. This time with my leg razor. It doesn't look as shocking as her first butch job...she mostly just thinned her hair on one side and it looks a little scraggly. Robert was a bit cross about the whole thing and I narrowly convinced him not to completely shave her head bald. Hopefully she will not try this trick again, although there are worse things. Pictures coming...

Feeding baby brother

Since the day Chase was born, Carter has been determined to help feed him. She insisted on coming to the hospital with 2 jars of baby food and was very disappointed that he couldn't eat it yet. Well now that we have finally started feeding him, guess who my best little helper is?

To be honest, Chase eats about as well for her as he does for anyone...very little food actually eaten and lots of food all over everything. Naturally he wants to help hold the spoons, smear food on the tray, you, the floor. Oh I was so over this, but here we go again! Carter does try to do a pretty good job and really likes to help and I can't say she doesn't make any bigger mess than Robert or I. We've started feeding Chase some cheerios and guess who else has suddenly for the first time in her life decided that she too has to eat cheerios? Carter wouldn't eat them as a baby, didn't like them much as a toddler, but if Chase wants them, by golly she does too!

I couldn't resist...

Nothing worse than having a nosy neighbor...especially when it's your sister! I couldn't resist taking a couple pictures as I drove past. I mostly was just really glad that it wasn't me driving for a change! I love these pictures where you can almost hear them thinking just what they are going to do now.

They did apparently get everything out with out too much damage to either the road or the truck.

Easter Chickens

According to Carter, the Easter Bunny got her chickens for easter this year. 21 of them in fact. It did make for one happy little girl with all her newest critters. The Easter Bunny (read Dad) is hoping that they will eat grasshoppers, lots of grasshoppers this year. Well maybe, if the fox that moved in up by my brothers or the raccoons don't manage to eat them...we'll see!

Carter saw a baby picture of Noah's arc and all excited brought it over to Robert and I. "Look! It's a picture of our house!" All I can say is the only zebra's or lion's her dad brings home had better be stuffed or plastic!

Rock Hill Sledding

So when you're bored on a rainy day...
I looked outside to find Carter and Chance using the sledding saucers to slide down the muddy rock hill behind our house. They were having a ball. Chance was being really good about watching out for Carter and helping her slide down. My little dare devil naturally loved the new sport.
Blake helping Carter up the hill and Chance waiting for her.
Ready Set Go!
Chance catching her at the bottom. Carter is pretty darn lucky to have such great cousins living so close by. If it was up to Carter, they'd just move in and live with us full time!

Carter's Cat Trap

Carter finally managed to pester and maul the poor cats enough that they have gotten extremely difficult for her to catch by herself. Robert and I both feel less inclined to help her catch the kitties so that she can maul them some more. Robert did help her rig up a Cat Trap one night though and it was pretty funny watching her try to catch a cat with it. She was entertained for quite some time with this contraption.
I was willing to provide bait...if the cats were dumb enough to get caught by this then well, they deserved a little mauling.
Carter getting it all set up. I don't think she ever actually caught a cat with her trap. She would get too excited when they got close and yank the stick out before they were under the trap far enough to get trapped. That or she would lose her calm altogether and race outside and try to run them down. That didn't work either. But it was good entertainment for all.

Adventures in taking family pictures

Ok, you wouldn't think it would be this hard...

Finally get both kids looking, Carter smiling, and then there's dad...
Oh sure. Now dad wants to cooperate...
