Rescuing Birds

Robert found a small bird trying to drown in the water tank last night and managed to get it fished out. We've been trying to keep sticks or other floating things in the tank so the birds can get a drink without drowning, especially now since it's so dry right now, but between the dogs and Carter hauling them off, it's been tough (and tough on the birds). The poor bird was apparently too flustered from the experience and possibly too waterlogged to fly right away. So naturally Robert had to bring it in the house for Carter to check out. She was entranced. She loved just sitting on the couch holding the bird and trying to pet it. The bird just sat there too terrified to move.

After the bird had dried out some, we turned him lose much to Carter's dismay. She really wanted to put it in her bug jar, but we managed to convince her it would be best to let the bird go home. She went looking for him again this morning in the water tank, just in case he had decided to come back.
